Abstract Impressions

• Design an abstract artwork that illustrates an emotion that’s hard to describe with words. 
• Use color, shape, and rhythm to convey your ideas. 

• Before you begin, work out your ideas in your sketchbook.
• Experiment with a variety of materials and processes before deciding which will best illustrate your concept.
• Remember that color interactions can add a lot of meaning to an image. 
• Play with layering and chance mark-making. What does your intuition tell you about how to compose your work? 
• Think about rhythm and balance as you develop your composition. 

You don’t need special art materials for this project. Experiment with crayons, pencils, or markers on whatever paper is available. Newspapers, magazines, and junk mail are great for creating a base layer!
